Since 2014, he has participated in the russian-Ukrainian war in Donbas as deputy commander of a special forces battalion for work with the personnel of the army of the so-called "DPR", and was also an advisor to the so-called "head of the DPR" Alexander Zakharchenko.
Since January 2023, he has been directly participating in the war against Ukraine as part of the special forces regiment "Oplot" of the National Guard of the russian federation as deputy commander for military-political work. He holds the military rank of lieutenant colonel.
He is one of the leaders of the "A Just russia - For the Truth" party, a member of the Public Council under the Ministry of Culture of the russian federation, a member of the Commission on Law and Order and Military Discipline of the Public Council under the Ministry of Defense of the russian federation, and also joined the Council under the President of the russian federation for Culture and Art.
He is a member of the All-russian Public Movement "People's Front "For russia" (under sanctions from the EU, Canada, Switzerland and Ukraine), which was created at the initiative of putin in order to monitor the implementation of his decrees/instructions and conduct campaigning activities in election processes. Within the framework of the "People's Front "For russia" Prilepin created the project "Volunteers of Culture", which is engaged in "preservation of cultural heritage".
He manages the Zakhar Prilepin Foundation and, as part of its activities, systematically organizes fundraising for the needs of the russian Armed Forces and personally delivers humanitarian aid, equipment, special equipment for small arms - butts, collimators, handles, monoculars, sights and mounts, as well as quadcopters, tablets, special communication equipment, etc. to the russian military. The Zakhar Prilepin Foundation, together with the public movement "Bloggers' Council", initiated a fundraising campaign for the "Victory Tank" tank.
In 2020, he joined the working group to prepare proposals for amendments to the russian Constitution, which would allow putin to be re-elected for two more terms - in 2024 and 2030.
He joined the initiative group to nominate putin as a candidate in the 2024 presidential election.
In addition, as part of the implementation of patriotic education measures, together with the all-russian public-state movement of children and youth "Movement of the First", the so-called "Lessons of Courage" are held, the program of which includes lectures, familiarization of children and youth with the exhibits of the museum of the so-called "SMO", disassembly-assembly of the Kalashnikov assault rifle, etc. In 2021, he was awarded a badge and a certificate of honor from putin for "a great contribution to strengthening russian statehood and active public activity", in 2023 - the Order of Courage for "courage and selflessness shown while fulfilling his civic duty", in 2024 he received the medal "For Strengthening Combat Solidarity" of the Ministry of Defense of the russian federation. He was also awarded the medals "For Courage" and "russian Special Forces", the badge of honor of the so-called LPR "For Humanitarian Assistance" and the badge "Volunteer of Donbass".
