Reasons
The Federal State Budgetary Institution of Science "Institute for the History of Material Culture of the RAS", headed by this individual, is the organiser of illegal archaeological excavations in the occupied Crimea and is under Ukrainian sanctions.
It is known that between 2014 and 2023, the staff of the Institute of the History of Material Culture of the RAS, on behalf of this organisation, received more than 20 permits from the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation to conduct archaeological work in the temporarily occupied Crimea. At the same time, with the organisational and financial support of the IIMK RAS, these employees annually carry out a number of episodes of illegal archaeological work.
In particular, in 2022-2023, during the construction of the New Chersonesos propaganda complex, the cultural layer of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Ancient City of Tauric Chersonesos and its Chora" was destroyed over an area of approximately 70,000 m², and approximately 5 million items of Ukrainian cultural property were seized and moved.
