The vessel is affiliated with the sanctioned russian company Eco Shipping LLC, which carries out shipping and marine transportation related to the construction of infrastructure facilities in the arctic zone of the russian federation, including for the Arctic LNG-2 project of the sanctioned Novatek company for the extraction of natural gas and production of liquefied natural gas on the Gydansky peninsula.
The owner of Bering is the sanctioned russian company Leasing Company LLC, founded by the sanctioned Gazprombank Leasing JSC.
In May 2024, USA imposed sanctions on the company's vessels, including Bering.
The vessel was involved in the transportation of weapons and military equipment from the port of Tartus (Syria) to the port of Murmansk (Russia) in March-April 2025 as part of the removal of russian military personnel, weapons and military equipment from Syria.
