TRITON

The vessel is owned and operated by the designated russian shipping company Northern Shipping Company OJSC (ОАО "Северное морское пароходство"), which is affiliated with the russian Ministry of Defence. The company provides services under state defence contracts for the transportation of cargo on behalf of the Ministry of Defence of the russian federation.
It is one of the largest shipping companies in northwestern russia, operating worldwide, including along the Northern Sea Route. Its fleet consists of versatile dry cargo vessels transporting all types of cargo, including radioactive and hazardous materials. The fleet comprises 30 vessels of various types: 18 transport vessels, 7 dredging vessels, and 5 auxiliary vessels. The company conducts liner, tramp, and multimodal shipping, delivers cargo to non-equipped shorelines, performs towing operations, and provides technical management (repairs, supply, ship chandler and warehousing services). It also offers simulator-based crew training, corrects nautical charts, and supplies river-sea vessels with inland navigation charts.
In May 2022, the United States imposed sanctions on 27 vessels operated by Northern Shipping Company OJSC, including the Triton, as well as on the company itself for its involvement in the military logistics sector of the russian federation, including the transportation of tanks and other military equipment for the russian armed forces.
