Vessel information
The vessel can transport any type of lumber, 20- and 40-foot containers, grain, and general cargo (IMO classes 2– 9).
The vessel is owned and managed by the designated russian company OJSC Northern Shipping Company (ОАО "Северное морское пароходство"), which is affiliated with the russian Ministry of Defence and provides services under state defense contracts for the transportation of cargo on behalf of the russian Ministry of Defence.
This is one of the largest shipping companies in north-west russia, engaged in global maritime transport, including operations along the Northern Sea Route. Its fleet consists of versatile dry cargo vessels capable of carrying all types of cargo, including radioactive and hazardous materials. The fleet comprises 30 vessels of various types: 18 transport vessels, 7 dredging vessels, and 5 auxiliary vessels. The company operates liner, tramp, and multimodal services, delivers cargo to unequipped shores, tows various structures, provides technical management (including repair, supply, ship chandling, and warehousing), ensures crew simulator training, corrects nautical charts, and supplies mixed-navigation (river– sea) vessels with inland waterway charts.
In May 2022, the United States imposed sanctions on OJSC Northern Shipping Company and 27 of its vessels, including Inzhener Veshnyakov, for operating in the russian federation’s military logistics sector, transporting tanks and other military equipment for the russian armed forces.
Despite these sanctions, the Turkish company Denkar Ship Construction Incorporated Company provided repair services to OJSC Northern Shipping Company for three designated vessels – Inzhener Trubin, Inzhener Veshnyakov, and Kapitan Kokovin. In September 2023, the United States imposed sanctions on the Turkish company for these activities.
