The VLCC-class floating oil storage facility with a deadweight of 300,259 thousand metric tons is part of the offshore transshipment complex in the Kola Bay. The UMBA FSO is considered a key element of the russian Arctic oil export chain and was created for transshipment of oil from Arctic fields by Gazprom Neft. The tanker is owned and operated by the russian sanctioned company RPK Nord LLC (Murmansk).
On January 10, 2025, USA imposed sanctions on the vessel as property in which RPK Nord LLC has an interest.
