Vessel information
The vessel is designed for container, general, and bulk cargo transportation. It is part of the fleet of the designated russian company Sakhalin Shipping Company PJSC (ПАО "Сахалинское морское пароходство"), one of the largest shipping companies in the russian Far East. The company ranks among the world’s top 100 container shipping operators, is one of the leaders in cabotage transport volumes, and serves as an important link in russia’s export and import connections with the Asia–Pacific region.
Sakhalin Shipping Company PJSC is part of the Delo Group (Группа компаний "Дело", affiliated with the russian State Corporation Rosatom), with 58.67% of its shares owned by the designated TransContainer PJSC (ПАО "Трансконтейнер") — russia’s largest railway container operator, providing a full range of transport and logistics services integrated with other Delo Group assets.
Vessels of Sakhalin Shipping Company PJSC have been implicated in the development of large-scale russian energy infrastructure projects, delivering construction materials and equipment by sea to the Taimyr Peninsula, and in the expansion of russia’s trade routes to new foreign jurisdictions to replace economic links lost following the russian federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
In July 2023, the United States imposed sanctions on 14 vessels, including Kunashir, belonging to the fleet of Sakhalin Shipping Company PJSC.
