The conventional tanker-gas carrier, which belonged to the Chinese company Jovo Energy, was purchased in the spring of 2026 by a little-known company, Tudor Maritime Ltd, incorporated in the Marshall Islands.
After the acquisition, the tanker was renamed "T Handan" and then "Avacha." Since June 2026, the gas carrier has been sailing under the russian flag.
The vessel is involved in the energy sector of the russian Federation’s economy, the profits from which are one of the most important sources of revenue for the aggressor state’s budget.
On October 1, 2026, the United Kingdom imposed sanctions on the vessel.
