The institution is responsible for organising and carrying out work to prevent and respond to oil and oil product spills; carrying out emergency rescue operations to assist vessels and facilities in distress at sea; and carrying out ship-lifting, subsea technical, diving, and hydraulic dredging operations on inland waterways and in russian seaports.
The Service is the leader in russia in terms of the number and variety of vessels with the ability to perform underwater technical works at depths of up to 3 km. The technical capabilities of the institution allow to provide for unique operations, maintenance of underwater parts of drilling platforms, inspection and study of various objects at great depths, and underwater technical support for offshore oil and gas drilling.
With the participation of the Marine Rescue Service, several models of unmanned aerial vehicles have been developed to operate in the Far North to obtain information about the environment around drilling rigs and vessels. The institution is implementing a joint project with oil and gas companies to monitor ice conditions and manage ice operations to ensure the operation of offshore drilling rigs in the Barents and Kara Seas.
It is an active participant in the russian public procurement system.
