The tanker, during the period of the G7 and EU oil embargo and the price cap policy on russian crude oil/petroleum products, has been involved since 2025 in the export of russian ESPO crude oil from russian ports in the Pacific region to the PRC.
Specifically, from January until June 2026, the tanker transported nearly 7 million barrels of russian ESPO crude oil for export to China. Among the sellers of russian wet cargo are PJSC Oil Company Rosneft, PJSC Surgutneftegaz, and Redwood Global Supply FZ-LLC (UAE), which was sanctioned by the United Kingdom on December 18, 2025, for its activities in the energy sector of the russian economy. Redwood Global Supply FZ-LLC is part of a network of companies linked to the "2Rivers Group," which is considered one of the largest operators of the shadow fleet in the world and the largest trader of russian crude oil.
On April 29, 2026, Ukraine imposed sanctions on the vessel.
