Description of the incident location
The archaeological site "Kyz-Aul Necropolis" is an ancient monument where representatives of the upper class of Bosporan society were buried in the period from the first century BC to the first century AD. The ancient necropolis is located 1 km southeast of the center of the village of Yakovenkovo, Zavetnensky rural settlement of the Leninsky district in Crimea, and occupies 2-2.5 hectares. The structure of the Kiz-Aul necropolis is represented by soil and tile graves and stone crypts.
Illegal archaeological work at Kyz-Aul has been carried out by the occupation Institute of Archaeology of Crimea of the russian Academy of Sciences every year since 2015, and valuable archaeological objects, including funerary items, have been seized. In 2021, during illegal excavations, women's jewelry - necklaces, pendants, earrings, and piercings - was seized. The material used to make the beads is Egyptian faience, lignite, paste glass and copper-based alloy, rock crystal, amber, carnelian, and chalcedony. Valuable items include necklaces and a pendant in the form of dice, an Egyptian glass pendant in the form of Harpocrates, a bracelet with garter ends, and a transparent glass ring insert. russian archaeologists have also unearthed pottery vessels - a red-lacquer plate, a bowl and a jug, coins ("obol of Charon"), and a bronze belt buckle.
