Description:
Night landscape with a high horizon line. The point of view from above. In the foreground is a narrow river with a bridge over it. To the left, on the bank, there are two figures leaning against each other - a man and a woman. Next to them is a tree bent to the ground. Across the river is a hut with a thatched roof, and beyond it is a poplar tree with its top cut off by the edge of a sheet. In the background are several scattered huts and a strip of dark forest. In the middle of the upper third of the composition is the white disk of the moon reflected in the river. The landscape is painted in green and black colors.
There is a pencil inscription under the image on the left: "Ukrainian Night" Based on Taras Shevchenko's "Kobzar". On the right is the author's signature and date: 1961. In the right corner of the image is the author's signature in typographic ink: Popov N.T. 1961.
On the back in the right corner is a pencil inscription: Popov N.T. Based on "Kobzar". Ukrainian night. Reg. No. 24589, inv. No. 1129. General yellowing of the sheet. Traces of iron bacteria and mounting.

Description of the incident location
It was opened on May 27, 1978, in the former City Hall building, an architectural monument of the early 20th century. As of 2022 (before the robbery), the museum's collection included more than 13 thousand works of art and was one of the most interesting museum collections in Ukraine. It includes works of Ukrainian and foreign painting, graphics, sculpture, and decorative and applied arts. From October 31 to November 4, 2022, the Kherson Art Museum was looted by the russian occupiers, and more than 10,000 of its most valuable exhibits were stolen. The cargo was sent to Crimea, and the works (all or part of them) ended up in the Simferopol Central Museum of Tavrida. It is unknown whether everything is still there.
