Against the background of a landscape with a river, tall green stems of plants, pale blue sky, in the center is a large-scale image of the Mother of God, full-length, standing on an ambo, in 3/4 of a turn of the head and figure to the right. The head and shoulders are covered with a blue shawl, wearing a bright red tunic and a dark blue mafia. On the clothes are thin and wide (in the form of spots) golden assistants; the arms are held to the sides, the right one, bent at the elbow, is raised up. Around the head is carved with thin lines and dots a golden halo, above which is an inscription in black: MR EU. Above the Mother of God, a sky-high image of the girdled Jesus Christ, with a blessing gesture. On the sides of the side scrolls are inscriptions: on the left - Nagimy Oded; on the right - Bolnimy itzel. To the right of the Mother of God are two angels and a group of people in full-length: Archangel and three figures - two male and a female between them - all in 3/4 turn to the left with their eyes turned to the Mother of God; below - an angel with his right hand raised and two male figures, one kneeling. To the left is a group of people in full-length; an archangel holding a white cloth, against its background are three half-naked figures; below them are two men and an angel between them. The four angels have round carved golden halos. In the center and lower right of the image there are 11 ochre medallions with the letters A (2) M (2) and signs in the form of long short lines and dots. The composition is enclosed in a half-shell with a geometric ornament. Below the image, on a white field, there is an inscription in black: An exact copy of the icon of the Mother of God of all who mourn joy in V... gad as it appeared after the storm. Exploded on July 23, 1888, over the chapel located ... then a whole ribbon with an illegible inscription. Throughout the field, on the faces of the Mother of God, the Archangels, there are many small losses of painting, abrasions and chips with loss of soil and paint layer on the side edges, white background, font in the lower part of the icon. The icon is slightly curved in an arc. It consists of two boards glued together. On the reverse side, there is a shallow crack on the right, and a part of the board is missing from the bottom.

Description of the incident location
It was opened on May 27, 1978, in the former City Hall building, an architectural monument of the early 20th century. As of 2022 (before the robbery), the museum's collection included more than 13 thousand works of art and was one of the most interesting museum collections in Ukraine. It includes works of Ukrainian and foreign painting, graphics, sculpture, and decorative and applied arts. From October 31 to November 4, 2022, the Kherson Art Museum was looted by the russian occupiers, and more than 10,000 of its most valuable exhibits were stolen. The cargo was sent to Crimea, and the works (all or part of them) ended up in the Simferopol Central Museum of Tavrida. It is unknown whether everything is still there.
