Description:
The icon is executed in the iconographic type of the "Compassion (Eleusis)". It is a belted image of the Mother of God with the infant Jesus on her right arm. The figure is in full-face, the head with a 3/4 turn to the left is tilted toward the infant. The Virgin holds her left hand in front of her chest, as if pointing to Jesus Christ. She is dressed in a golden-cherry mafia with a golden-orange border, which wraps around her head and shoulders and falls in folds downward. A blue cap is visible on her head. He is wearing a tunic with narrow sleeves and a wide golden-orange border on it. There are diamond-shaped stars on the left shoulder and head. The silhouette is clearly outlined in black. The infant is depicted in full-length, sitting, with his head and figure in 3/4 turn to the right, with his left cheek pressed against the cheek of the Mother of God, his left arm around her neck, his right arm extended forward. The figure is dressed in a golden-red chiton with wide sleeves, painted with thin parallel strokes ("in the pen"). Around the head of the Mother of God and Jesus are round ornamented halos with white dots on the outer circle, the infant has a crossed one. The image of the faces is not clear, blurred. The golden background of the icon is filled with geometric contour ornaments. Inscriptions on the field of the icon: in black at the top left MR, at the right -DU; on the left TS - HS, on the right - DEODSHROVSKYA PRETIL BCI. On the reverse - in black ink at the top: AV - 1232 6443755 154. Everywhere there are abrasions and losses (small) of the paint layer: on the faces, hands, head, clothes. At the top right, a 4 x 2 cm corner of the hinge and a part of the upper edge - 6 cm - are torn off. There are nail punctures on the back.

Description of the incident location
It was opened on May 27, 1978, in the former City Hall building, an architectural monument of the early 20th century. As of 2022 (before the robbery), the museum's collection included more than 13 thousand works of art and was one of the most interesting museum collections in Ukraine. It includes works of Ukrainian and foreign painting, graphics, sculpture, and decorative and applied arts. From October 31 to November 4, 2022, the Kherson Art Museum was looted by the russian occupiers, and more than 10,000 of its most valuable exhibits were stolen. The cargo was sent to Crimea, and the works (all or part of them) ended up in the Simferopol Central Museum of Tavrida. It is unknown whether everything is still there.
