Description:
Against the background of the fortress walls with the towers of the "stone city" is the scene of the Dormition of the Mother of God. In the center, on a high bed covered with a white cloth, the Mother of God lies in a dark cherry-brown mafia, a blue-green tunic with her arms crossed over her chest. Above her, in the center, is a generational image of Jesus Christ against the background of a light ochre mandolin with thin white bows extending to the sides. He is dressed in a green chiton with a clavier on his right shoulder and a cherry-brown sash. On his left arm is a baby in light clothes, his right hand is in a blessing gesture. To the right and left of Jesus Christ are archangels in light yellow cloth with bowed heads and saints with the Gospels. To the right and left of the bed of the Mother of God are the apostles, full-length, with mournful faces. In front of the bed is a small-scale image of a warlike archangel with a sword (on the left) and a kneeling woman with her hands raised. In the upper part, above Jesus Christ is a six-winged seraph. The field of the icon is dark ochre with light stripes at the edges. Above the field is an inscription in black: ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT. General soiling of the icon. On the halo of Jesus Christ - loss of paint layer 1x1 cm; on the left side at the edge - 1 cm, 2 cm. And small losses throughout the panel.

Description of the incident location
It was opened on May 27, 1978, in the former City Hall building, an architectural monument of the early 20th century. As of 2022 (before the robbery), the museum's collection included more than 13 thousand works of art and was one of the most interesting museum collections in Ukraine. It includes works of Ukrainian and foreign painting, graphics, sculpture, and decorative and applied arts. From October 31 to November 4, 2022, the Kherson Art Museum was looted by the russian occupiers, and more than 10,000 of its most valuable exhibits were stolen. The cargo was sent to Crimea, and the works (all or part of them) ended up in the Simferopol Central Museum of Tavrida. It is unknown whether everything is still there.
