The interior, with pale light green walls, depicts the Virgin in full-length, seated with a spindle on a high-backed throne decorated with Baroque decorative carvings. The head and figure turn (slightly tilted) in 3/4 to the left. The right hand, with open palm, is in front of the chest, the left hand is on the canvas, and the feet are on a round footrest. She is dressed in a red mafia with a thin golden border, from under which a green cap is visible, in a blue and green tunic with narrow sleeves and a wide golden border, in red shoes. He wears wide arched assists. Around her head is a golden halo with a red rim and an inscription (in black). To her left, on a round table with a carved leg and a patterned tablecloth, the Gospel is open. In the upper left corner, a white dove is depicted against a golden background flying down to the Mother of God. To the left, through an arched opening, one can see the landscape and the scene of the Annunciation: the Mother of God standing in full-length in a well with a "crane", holding a pitcher in her right hand and the flying archangel Gabriel (partial image: head, wing, outstretched right hand towards the Mother of God); to the right, through an arched window opening (with a raised patterned curtain), one can see the landscape and buildings with high spires. To the left and right, the composition is closed by tall faceted columns. The image is generally soiled. There is mesh craquelure everywhere, small losses of the paint layer on the face of the Virgin, halo, and along the edges of the boards. The icon was washed. There are nail punctures and scratches on the back. The dowels are mortise and tenon.

Description of the incident location
It was opened on May 27, 1978, in the former City Hall building, an architectural monument of the early 20th century. As of 2022 (before the robbery), the museum's collection included more than 13 thousand works of art and was one of the most interesting museum collections in Ukraine. It includes works of Ukrainian and foreign painting, graphics, sculpture, and decorative and applied arts. From October 31 to November 4, 2022, the Kherson Art Museum was looted by the russian occupiers, and more than 10,000 of its most valuable exhibits were stolen. The cargo was sent to Crimea, and the works (all or part of them) ended up in the Simferopol Central Museum of Tavrida. It is unknown whether everything is still there.
