Monument of archeology "Ancient settlement of Acre"
Description of the incident location
"The Ancient City of Akra is an archaeological site in Ukraine located at the southernmost point of the Kerch Strait, near the modern village of Naberezhne. Akra is a flooded ancient port city that existed from the late 6th century BC to the 4th century AD. Due to the fact that Acra had a favorable geographical location in the south of the European coast of the Kerch Strait (Bosporus Cimmerian), this settlement is repeatedly mentioned in the works of Greek and Roman authors: Strabo, Ptolemy and Stephen of Byzantium. Nowadays, the defensive walls, towers and remains of the city of Acre, also called "Crimean Atlantis," can be seen on the shelf under the waters of the Kerch Strait a few dozen meters off the coast at a depth of 4 meters.
Illegal archaeological excavations are regularly conducted on the site. Between 2015 and 2020 and between 2022 and 2024, the State Hermitage Antique Complex Expedition organized and conducted a series of illegal archaeological excavations on the territory of the Ancient City of Acre.
