She is dressed in a brownish-red mafia tunic on a dark green lining, falling in numerous folds, decorated with yellow stars (on the forehead and right shoulder) and a wide border with large and clear, carving-like ornamentation. The sleeve bands and the neck of the dark green tunic are also decorated with an ornamented border: the neck is orange with black ornamentation, and the bands are black with white ornamentation. A turban looks out from under the mafia. The left hand with bent fingers is raised to the level of the face. The right hand, bent at the elbow, supports Jesus sitting on his knees. The gaze of the large, convex eyes with large lower and upper eyelids is downward and directed at the infant. The eyebrows are arched, the face is oval with a rounded chin. The nose is straight and the lips are tightly compressed. Around the head there is a barely visible halo and radiance, in the form of light green rays on a dark green background of the icon. Infant: sitting in ¾ turn to the left, wearing a dark green chiton with light gaps and a brown hymen also with light gaps. In his hands is an unfolded scroll with words in Old Slavonic. The head is slightly raised in a ¾ turn to the left. The gaze is directed at the scroll. The body is elongated, the head is small. The face is oval, the chin is rounded. The hair is straight and dark. Bare feet peek out from under the hymen. Around the head there is a barely visible halo and a radiance in the form of light green rays. To the left of the Virgin is an inscription in Old Church Slavonic. Below is a church symbol. Description of the incident location
It was opened on May 27, 1978, in the former City Hall building, an architectural monument of the early 20th century. As of 2022 (before the robbery), the museum's collection included more than 13 thousand works of art and was one of the most interesting museum collections in Ukraine. It includes works of Ukrainian and foreign painting, graphics, sculpture, and decorative and applied arts. From October 31 to November 4, 2022, the Kherson Art Museum was looted by the russian occupiers, and more than 10,000 of its most valuable exhibits were stolen. The cargo was sent to Crimea, and the works (all or part of them) ended up in the Simferopol Central Museum of Tavrida. It is unknown whether everything is still there.
