The 9M723 Iskander-M ballistic missiles are widely used by russia in its aggressive war against Ukraine, including for strikes against densely populated cities, energy facilities, and civilian infrastructure, resulting in civilian deaths and injuries.
The most significant incidents in terms of casualties include:
November 17, 2024, a 9M723 ballistic missile strike on an apartment building in Sumy, resulting in the deaths of 12 people, including 2 children, and injuries to more than 80 others;
October 5, 2023, a 9M723 ballistic missile strike on a café and grocery store in the village of Groza, Kharkiv Region, resulting in the deaths of 59 people, including 1 child, and injuries to 5 others.
