Reasons
Russian politician, publicist and theater director, leader of the Essence of Time movement and an active participant in information support of russian aggression against Ukraine. His activities are characterized by the systematic spread of anti-Ukrainian rhetoric, participation in state propaganda campaigns and public justification of russian war crimes.
He openly denies the legitimacy of Ukrainian statehood, claiming that Ukraine is an "artificial entity" created by external forces. In his public speeches, he promotes the idea that Ukraine allegedly has no historical identity of its own, and that its independence is the result of "a wrong exit from the USSR". He also systematically promotes the narratives that Odesa is a "russian city" and that modern Ukraine is a "Banderite state" that needs to be "denazified".
In his statements, Kurginyan repeatedly called the current Ukrainian government "fascist" and called for its overthrow. He claimed that a fascist regime had been established in Kyiv, which posed a threat to russia and the russian-speaking population. In particular, he publicly advocated the creation of a "Ukrainian People's Liberation Army," which, according to his plan, should "liberate the country from fascism" by entering Kyiv.
Kurginyan is a regular participant in state propaganda television programs, including "Evening with Vladimir Solovyov" and "The Big Game," where he promotes kremlin narratives, justifies the war against Ukraine, and discredits the Ukrainian leadership. In addition, he runs his own project "The Essence of Time," in which he spreads ideas about the restoration of the USSR, russia's "messianic role" in the world, and the "historical justice of the accession of Ukrainian territories to russia."
In addition to his propaganda activities in the media, Kurginyan is the author of a film for which he received a state award for "contribution to patriotic education." In this film, he popularizes the idea of the "historical validity" of the annexation of Ukrainian territories and legitimizes russia's aggressive actions against Ukraine.
