He is an active participant in russia’s information war against Ukraine as a propagandist and author of articles and books on military conflicts of the 20th and 21st centuries. In the public sphere, he presents himself as an independent expert, but in reality he is an active tool of russian propaganda.
He conveys his anti-Ukrainian stance through collaboration with russian media and publishers, as well as through his own media platforms. In particular, he has described events in eastern Ukraine from a pro-russian perspective in books such as "The Day Ukraine Wavered: The Ilovaisk Meat Grinder," "Battle of the Year: The Defense of Saur-Mogila," "The Fall of Donetsk Airport: How It Happened," and "The Fortress of Sloviansk."
Since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, he has actively disseminated propaganda narratives to justify russia’s aggression. In his articles and speeches, he openly promotes the kremlin’s talking points, calling the so-called "special military operation" a necessary action, criticizing Ukraine’s actions, and using propaganda clichés such as "the genocide of the russian people in Donbas." In addition, in his public statements, he claimed that the russian command’s main mistake was allegedly "pity for the Ukrainian Armed Forces."
A significant portion of his writings is based on the manipulation of historical facts, which shapes a simplified and one-sided view of military and political events, fully in line with the russian federation’s official narratives. Thus, Norin is a classic example of an informal media figure who, through his respectable image as a military historian, exerts informational and psychological influence on public opinion—a typical mechanism of russian cognitive warfare.
Since the start of the armed aggression in 2014, he has openly supported pro-russian forces. He organized fundraisers, participated in the transport of so-called humanitarian aid to militants, and has repeatedly visited the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine
