Description:
Bust of John the Baptist in ¾ turn to the left. In his left hand is a chalice with the Infant Christ and a scroll with an inscription. With his right hand, John points to Christ. The prophet's black chiton has a red border at the collar and red hatching along the edge of the sleeves. The silver chiton has a lush floral pattern applied with depressed dots. The face is elongated, with long, straight brown hair covering the shoulders. The beard is sparse, divided into strands. The ochre is smooth. Light ocher with highlights. The halo is silver, the outline is red, protruding into the field. The background is silver. The fields are painted bright red. The inscription on top is brown. Restoration in the Odesa branch of the NIRTSU.
On the reverse: a board with two incised counter dowels. On the front side, there is a piercing crack across the icon at the junction of the boards. To the left of the center is an oblique crack (17.5 cm), passing through the image of the scroll and the right hand of John. The silver background has numerous losses. On the reverse side, along the edge of the veneer, there is a splinter of wood. Transferred from the museum's auxiliary fund.

Description of the incident location
It was opened on May 27, 1978, in the former City Hall building, an architectural monument of the early 20th century. As of 2022 (before the robbery), the museum's collection included more than 13 thousand works of art and was one of the most interesting museum collections in Ukraine. It includes works of Ukrainian and foreign painting, graphics, sculpture, and decorative and applied arts. From October 31 to November 4, 2022, the Kherson Art Museum was looted by the russian occupiers, and more than 10,000 of its most valuable exhibits were stolen. The cargo was sent to Crimea, and the works (all or part of them) ended up in the Simferopol Central Museum of Tavrida. It is unknown whether everything is still there.
