Description:
The complex multi-figure composition with repeating characters consists of many scenes: In the upper part, in the center is the Resurrection, with Christ in almond-shaped glory standing in the tomb, with a guard and a round stone at his feet; on the left, the "angelic forces" are moving downward toward the gates of hell, behind a vise; in the lower left corner, the fiery red "belly of hell" spews out the dead, dressed in blue, green, yellow, and red shrouds. Above the infernal abyss in the middle stands Jesus Christ in glory, holding Adam's hand; at His feet kneels Eve. Behind Jesus Christ (diagonally) are the forefathers in halos, including Kings David and Solomon, angels, who have returned to the Prudent Thief, who stands before the gates of the mountain Jerusalem. At the top of the fence, the Prudent Thief is again represented communicating with the light ones. In the lower right corner is the appearance of Jesus Christ to his disciples at the Sea of Tiberias. In the upper left corner are the Myrrh-bearing Lady and an angel at the tomb of Jesus Christ. In the side margins on the left is an angel and on the right is a saint (name illegible). The figures are graceful, the pattern of the clothes of Jesus Christ and the angels in white is graphic. The faces are illuminated with soft white highlights (smoothly) on brown sankir. The bright red clothes of the saints have been restored. The slides do not have three-dimensional ledges; their vise-like edges are marked with white lines. The painting is executed on a golden background. The colors of the clothes and buildings are olive, green, pale green, red, ochre with golden assist. The almond-shaped glory is green with a golden assist. There is a golden stripe along the edges of the ark. The borders are wide, dark olive with a red and dark brown outline along the edges. On the upper panel there is a fuzzy inscription in white with losses: RESURRECTION OF THE LORD..., on the lower panel in small print, the text is impossible to read. The board with the ark, dowels are cut in, meeting with protrusions on the sides. Contamination throughout the icon with spots of white and blue paint. Significant loss of the paint layer with levkas: part of the right foot of Jesus Christ, on Eve's clothes, in the lower part on the right along the edge of the ark; on the left bottom along the edge of the field; on the left edge, on the corners of the icon. Loss of the paint layer on the halos of the saints (in some places gold is preserved), on the clothes of Jesus Christ and the wings of angels; complete loss of the inscriptions of the names of the saints. Scuffs, scratches, and disturbances of the paint layer on the side margins of the icon. A vertical crack in the lower right. Roughly renewed clothes on some saints (with red paint).

Description of the incident location
It was opened on May 27, 1978, in the former City Hall building, an architectural monument of the early 20th century. As of 2022 (before the robbery), the museum's collection included more than 13 thousand works of art and was one of the most interesting museum collections in Ukraine. It includes works of Ukrainian and foreign painting, graphics, sculpture, and decorative and applied arts. From October 31 to November 4, 2022, the Kherson Art Museum was looted by the russian occupiers, and more than 10,000 of its most valuable exhibits were stolen. The cargo was sent to Crimea, and the works (all or part of them) ended up in the Simferopol Central Museum of Tavrida. It is unknown whether everything is still there.
