Description:
Against a red background is an explanatory image of a seated elderly man in a 3/4 turn to the right, part of his left hand is cut off by the edge of the image, and a piece of white paper is in his right hand, which is lying on the armrest. Facial features: open forehead with longitudinal wrinkles, black eyebrows, dark eyes with swollen eyelids, nose bent downward, sharply defined lips. Thick hair combed back slightly covering the ears. Clothing: white shirt unbuttoned at the collar, gray jacket. In the lower right corner in black paint by Y.K. From the back - At the bottom right of the stretcher is a label of the exhibition directorate of the Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR. At the top of the stretcher in graphite pencil: Portrait of Y.D. Gamzaev by Y. Kiyanchenko, 75 x 63 cm. In the upper right corner in graphite pencil and on the right side 467. Description of the incident location
It was opened on May 27, 1978, in the former City Hall building, an architectural monument of the early 20th century. As of 2022 (before the robbery), the museum's collection included more than 13 thousand works of art and was one of the most interesting museum collections in Ukraine. It includes works of Ukrainian and foreign painting, graphics, sculpture, and decorative and applied arts. From October 31 to November 4, 2022, the Kherson Art Museum was looted by the russian occupiers, and more than 10,000 of its most valuable exhibits were stolen. The cargo was sent to Crimea, and the works (all or part of them) ended up in the Simferopol Central Museum of Tavrida. It is unknown whether everything is still there.
