Description:
Multi-figure composition. Almost in the center, three men lower the body taken down from the cross on a white shroud. The edge of the shroud is held by a fair-haired woman in a blue chiton and a dark cloak, who is standing. At her feet, on the ground, a skull and bones. In the lower right foreground is an elderly woman who is lying unconscious, another is leaning over her. To the right in the background is a standing figure in red. The background is dark gray-brown. On the reverse side - at the top on the stretcher in ink "AB No. 1261" ("АВ № 1261"). On the canvas with black paint: "ХХМ inventory No. 27 x – 362. Restored in the Rostov Research Workshops (1977-1981)" ("ХХМ інв. №27 х – 362. Реставрували у Ростовських науково-дослідницьких майстернях (1977-1981)") (Not an exact copy from an engraving on copper of the 18th century by Philipp Andreas Kilian (1714-1750) Germany, made from an altar painting of 1731 by the brush of the Lombard painter Carlo Carlone (1686-1775), located in the Benedictine Abbey in Weingarten (Southern Germany).

Description of the incident location
It was opened on May 27, 1978, in the former City Hall building, an architectural monument of the early 20th century. As of 2022 (before the robbery), the museum's collection included more than 13 thousand works of art and was one of the most interesting museum collections in Ukraine. It includes works of Ukrainian and foreign painting, graphics, sculpture, and decorative and applied arts. From October 31 to November 4, 2022, the Kherson Art Museum was looted by the russian occupiers, and more than 10,000 of its most valuable exhibits were stolen. The cargo was sent to Crimea, and the works (all or part of them) ended up in the Simferopol Central Museum of Tavrida. It is unknown whether everything is still there.
