Description:
There are two compositions on the sheet. In the upper part there is a landscape. From right to left, a river runs deep into the composition, with a bridge crossing it in the centre. On the left, on the raised bank, there are figures of three horsemen. On the right is a tower surrounded by a fence. Under the image: Maikop, a settlement on the Belaya River, founded in the Zakuban Territory (Eastern Caucasus) From a drawing by Professor L. K. Rice. From a life drawing by Professor L.F. Lagorio. At the bottom of the sheet is a multi-figure composition. In the foreground are 7 seated highlanders, followed by three more in full length. All of them are wearing fur hats, caftans, and carrying rifles. The image is set against a mountainous landscape. Under the image: Black Sea Plast members of the Shansugi detachment. Description of the incident location
It was opened on May 27, 1978, in the former City Hall building, an architectural monument of the early 20th century. As of 2022 (before the robbery), the museum's collection included more than 13 thousand works of art and was one of the most interesting museum collections in Ukraine. It includes works of Ukrainian and foreign painting, graphics, sculpture, and decorative and applied arts. From October 31 to November 4, 2022, the Kherson Art Museum was looted by the russian occupiers, and more than 10,000 of its most valuable exhibits were stolen. The cargo was sent to Crimea, and the works (all or part of them) ended up in the Simferopol Central Museum of Tavrida. It is unknown whether everything is still there.
