Head in profile on the left, figure in 3/4 on the left. Behind her, near the right edge of the canvas, a fair-haired boy in a gray-pink shirt, long black trousers, barefoot. In the center of the composition are two peasants walking with a beard in black army jackets. The man walking on the right carries banners on a pole, the second carries a lighted lantern on a pole. Behind them is a boy in a grayish-red shirt, gray-blue trousers tucked into boots. In the boy’s hands on a low pole is a gilded cross. On the left, in front of the peasants walking with a banner and a lantern, an old gray-bearded peasant in a long black army coat and a peasant woman in a light gray skirt and a long jacket carrying a large icon covered with a gray-white cloth are walking. In the background, there is an unclear image of the people walking. Along the horizon line are low peasant buildings, in the center is a wooden hut with a gable roof, near which female figures are visible. On the right is a white church with a bell tower, with a green tent roof. On the left is a small ravine with blue water. The sky is light gray. Description of the incident location
It was opened on May 27, 1978, in the former City Hall building, an architectural monument of the early 20th century. As of 2022 (before the robbery), the museum's collection included more than 13 thousand works of art and was one of the most interesting museum collections in Ukraine. It includes works of Ukrainian and foreign painting, graphics, sculpture, and decorative and applied arts. From October 31 to November 4, 2022, the Kherson Art Museum was looted by the russian occupiers, and more than 10,000 of its most valuable exhibits were stolen. The cargo was sent to Crimea, and the works (all or part of them) ended up in the Simferopol Central Museum of Tavrida. It is unknown whether everything is still there.
