Description of the incident location
The city of Staryi Krym in the Feodosia district of the occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea was first mentioned in the early first millennium as the Taurian city of Kariya, and from the end of the first millennium AD - Surkhat. In the thirteenth century, it became the center of the Crimean ulus of the Golden Horde, a powerful trading center and crossroads of civilizations, and the city had two names: the Turkic name Crimea and the Genoese name Solkhat. In 2018-2019, the Golden Horde Expedition, together with employees of the F. Yakubov KVPU (Russia), carried out illegal work in the area of the dam of the Starokrymskoye Reservoir. An archaeological site, a "durbe with a plinth vault," was excavated. The site, which contained two burial structures, was completely excavated. During these works, cultural values were seized, in particular, 26 coins of the XII-XIV centuries made of silver and copper, and especially valuable gold earrings with a translucent square insert of white glass, similar earrings are known from finds in Mongolia of the Yuan era (1271-1368).
