Description of the incident location
Pavlovsky Cape is the southern tip of Cape Ak-Burun. In September 1867, as a result of excavation work near Pavlovsky Cape, 21 burials were unearthed, with severely decayed skeletons oriented to the east. In total, about a dozen Jewish headstones were found in the area of Cape Ak-Burun.
In 2020, representatives of the Institute of Archeology of the Crimea of the russian Academy of Sciences conducted illegal archaeological work on the territory adjacent to the stone quarries located between the Pavlovsky lighthouses near the Kerch fortress. They seized and appropriated a collection of 27 tombstones and fragments, including 13 with inscriptions, and 12 slabs with images of menorahs.
