Description of the incident location
In the fall of 2018, west of Kerch, during illegal "security and rescue excavations" on the construction of the railway approach to the "Crimean Bridge" near the village of Oktyabrske, Leninsky district, persons controlled by the russian federation unearthed an ancient ancient settlement under the codename Manitra, dated approximately to the end of the V - beginning of the III century BC.
Manitra is a complex of synchronous archaeological sites: a rural settlement, round buildings adjacent to it from the west and east that could have been cattle sheds, a complex of household pits, and a necropolis. According to preliminary data, the complex has been inhabited for about 150 years and has been rebuilt at least twice during this time (possibly due to a change of owner(s) or settlement function), which significantly complicates its understanding. The discovery dates back to the times of the Bosporus Kingdom, an ancient state founded by Greek immigrants more than 2,500 years ago along the Kerch Strait.
The excavations of Manitra were carried out by the Crimean New Construction Expedition of the russian Academy of Sciences. Since 2016, the group, in violation of Ukrainian law, has been conducting illegal archaeological work on the largest objects of the Crimean transport infrastructure illegally constructed by the occupying state.
