Reasons
After russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he did not condemn the actions of the aggressor state, but in December 2022 said he did not plan to leave russia and continued to work as an assistant head coach of the Zenit football club.
In September 2024, he organized an auction of a russian Zenit shirt with his own signature to raise funds to support the population of the Kursk region of russia, which allegedly suffered from attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the spring of 2022, the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) decided to suspend Tymoshchuk for life from any football activity in Ukraine, and deprived him of all his titles and Pro-UEFA coaching license.
In his position at the russian club, he is actively involved in transfer campaigns, including being involved in the review of potential newcomers for the club at the 2024 Asian Cup.
On May 9, 2017, together with the St. Petersburg team Zenit, he laid flowers with a St. George's ribbon at the Motherland memorial in St. Petersburg.
